'Just as a lamp lights up a dark room, so the fear of God when it penetrates the heart of a man illuminates him, teaching him all the virtues and commandments of God.'

“The Desire of My Eyes and the Delight of My Soul”
The original inspiration for the design of the church came from a visit that Fr. Josiah, proistamenos of the parish, made to Greece in 1998. He fell in love with the beautiful 13th century world-heritage site, St. Catherine Church, in Thessaloniki. This church is a cross in a square five domed church. Hundreds of photographs were taken of St. Catherine Church inside and out. Infused with the vision of these photos, the parish then hired an architectural firm out of San Francisco and designed St. Andrew Church along similar lines. A full exonarthex and covered gallery were added, as well as two domed side chapels.

From 2007-2010 intensive design and construction work was been in high gear. The foundations of the church are poured 50% deeper than required by code, and the foundations are full of sacred crosses and numerous small icons. The frame of the church is entirely constructed of steel.

The Stone. A prodigious amount of precious stone adorns the interior and exterior of the church. The exterior plaza and walkway encircling the church is tumbled travertine modeled on the Versailles pattern and coloring of the plaza at the Holy Stavropegic Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos of Saydnaya in Syria, visited by Fr. Josiah in 2010. The interior marble comes from 12 quarries in 7 countries, including Turkey, Syria, Brazil, and Italy. The magnificent baptismal font, fashioned in the image of the St. Andrew X-Cross, is made of Gallo Noche marble and Grand Fossil. The solea is fashioned of a rare deep blood-red marble. The iconostasis and holy altar are fashioned from 10,000 lbs of white Syrian marble, hand carved by a talented craftsmen from Homs, Syria, who spent two months on-site assembling the iconostasis and altar.
